How to Prepare Your Yard or Site for Porta Potty Delivery

Where should a porta potty go in my yard?
Put a porta potty on level, firm ground at least 10 feet from your house and away from windows, patios and the food table. Keep it within about 100 feet of where our truck can park so the service hose reaches. Avoid sprinkler heads, septic lids, low spots and soft soil that floods after rain.
| Requirement | Standard / deluxe unit | Wheelchair-accessible unit | Restroom trailer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gate or path width | 4 ft or wider (unit is 43.5–47 in wide) | 5.5 ft or wider (unit is 62 in wide) | Truck access to the spot; 10 ft wide drive |
| Overhead clearance | 8 ft (unit is 91 in tall) | 8 ft | 12 ft for the truck and A/C unit |
| Ground | Level and firm: concrete, gravel, packed dirt or grass | Level, firm and on an accessible route | Level within a few inches; blocks used to level |
| Distance from service truck | Within about 100 ft of where our truck can park | Within about 100 ft | Truck must back up to the trailer |
| Power and water | None | None | 20-amp, 110-volt outlet within 50 ft, or a generator; garden hose optional |
Will the unit fit through my gate?
A standard porta potty fits through a 4-foot gate, because the unit is 43.5 inches wide. A deluxe unit is 47 inches wide and also needs about 4 feet. A wheelchair-accessible unit is 62 inches wide and needs about 5.5 feet. Measure the narrowest point, including gate posts and latches.
Delivery-day checklist
On delivery day, mark the spot with a cone or chalk, unlock the gate or text us the code, move cars and trash cans from the path, put pets inside, and tell us about overhead wires or low branches. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and reachable.
- Mark the exact spot.
- Measure the gate and path: 4 ft for standard, 5.5 ft for accessible.
- Clear cars, bins and toys from the path.
- Unlock the gate or share the code.
- Keep pets inside during delivery and service.
- Flag sprinkler heads, septic lids and buried lines.
Do HOA or city rules limit where it goes?
Some HOAs and cities limit where a porta potty can sit. Highland Park requires screening on 3 sides for units in a front or street-side yard, and wants job site units at the rear where there is an alley. Burleson needs a right-of-way permit for anything at the curb. Keep units on your lot to avoid permits.

How should I prepare for rain or wind?
For rain, place the unit on high ground, not in a low spot where water pools. May is the wettest month at DFW, averaging 4.78 inches. For wind, keep the unit near a fence or wall, and ask us to stake or strap it in open areas. Tell us if the access path turns muddy.
Quick answers
Can the unit go on my driveway?
Yes. A driveway is level and firm, which makes it a great spot.
Can it go on grass?
Yes, if the grass is level and not soggy.
Will the truck damage my lawn?
The truck stays on the street or driveway. Crews carry or dolly the unit to the spot.
What if my backyard has no gate access?
Place it in the driveway or side yard. Many customers put it beside the garage.
